#MEDLENTISK: Focus on the noteworthy Mediterranean lentisk trees
This monumental lentisk tree is located in the locality called Foss'e canna (phytotoponym which translated from the Sardinian language means "the ditch of the reed") in the countryside of Escalaplano, a town in Gerrei (South Sardinia) 70 km from Cagliari. The tree is male, is 5.60 m high with a trunk diameter of about 54 cm and a crown of 10 m. Every year between May and June the ancient tradition of producing oil extracted from lentisk berries is celebrated with a festival. For the extraction of the oil, a manual and ancient process is still used: processing the berries with the feet!
